Burkina Faso’s electoral commission has accepted 14 out of 23 bids to contest next month’s presidential election, including that of incumbent Roch Marc Christian Kabore and his major rivals. The AFP reports that the provisional list approved by the Independent National Electoral Commission now goes to a top court, the Constitutional Council, which has 10 days to approve or reject the candidacies, CENI chairman Newton Ahmed Barry said late Wednesday. The November 22 vote in the impoverished Sahel nation is taking place amid a jihadist insurgency and the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
