Following a bloody weekend in South Africa that saw 15 people shot dead at a tavern in Soweto, and another 4 in a tavern in Pietermaritzburg, the South African police said cases of murder and attempted murder had been opened for investigation. Gauteng police said that they “believe that there must have been more than one shooter,” but that they “don’t know what the motive for the shooting was,” explaining that the “scene looks like the shooters came … with an intention to kill but randomly so”. Those killed in Pietermaritzburg, News24 reports, also seem to have been randomly targetted, with both incidents coming just weeks after the Enyobeni Tavern tragedy.
