Half of the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation employees could lose their jobs if the subsidy from the state remains the same, the broadcaster’s board chairperson Lazarus Jacobs said yesterday. The New Era newspaper reports that the strike has impacted the Covid-19 daily update via the Government Information Centre that the national broadcaster has been airing since the announcement of the pandemic in 2020. The workers are demanding an 8% pay rise and want workers who have been on monthly contracts to be offered permanent contracts, the purchasing of more modern equipment, and better working conditions.
