The African Union mid-year coordination meeting ended in Lusaka, Zambia on Sunday, resolving, among other things, that the headquarters of the proposed African Medicines Agency will be hosted in Rwanda. Africanews reports that after the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, the AMA will be the second specialized health agency of the continental body. With the Covid-19 outbreak having exacerbated challenges facing the health sector the 55-member states hope the new body will help foster an enabling environment for pharmaceutical manufacturing on the continent.
