South African authorities have ruled out a stampede as the cause of the Eastern Cape tavern tragedy that led to the deaths of 21 teens. The Eastern Cape Community Safety MEC, Weziwe Tikana-Gxothiwe told eNCA that post-mortem results will be released in due course. The Eastern Cape Liquor Board has meanwhile shut down the Enyobeni tavern. The board’s chief inspector Zola Tyikwe says once investigations by the police have been completed, it will lay criminal charges against the owner.
