The border fence between South Africa and Zimbabwe is to be taken down because it isn’t fit for purpose, South Africa’s Public Works and Infrastructure Minister Patricia de Lille has told Parliament. Eyewitness News reports that the controversial Beitbridge fence, which cost 40 million rands, has been described as a “washing line” for its ineffectiveness in securing the land border. De Lille said that South Africa’s government was looking for a long-term solution to fix South Africa’s porous borders.
