The Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Land Reform in collaboration with the Government of the People of Japan and the United Nations Development Programme Namibia have launched the Build Back Better programme to strengthen Namibiaʼs food systems in order to recover from emergencies and disease-related shocks. The project, to be implemented in four regions will focus on capacitating the production of horticultural crops that address nutritional deficiencies affecting urban communities, and on improving the hygiene and sanitation of informal food vendors and local food markets. Beneficiaries of the N$ 1 million programme will include women, youth and the vulnerable operating as small-scale farmers, individual producers, and informal food vendors.
