Brush up on your A-B-Cs because Tuesday, September 8 is International Literacy Day! A celebration of its importance and the perfect opportunity to continue developing your child’s literacy skills. Experts suggest that the most powerful ways to develop children’s literacy skills are also the simplest: talk to them, listen to them, read to them, and write with them. When caring adults talk to kids about the world, they say, they are planting seeds of knowledge that will help kids grow into curious thinkers, readers and writers. Dr Seuss, put it very simply in his book I can Read With My My Eyes Shut! when he wrote, “The more that you read, the more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.”
