The World Health Organisation African Region says although cholera is a preventable disease, it remains a significant public health problem globally. Each year, there are close to four million cases of cholera and more than 21-thousand deaths worldwide. WHO says it fully supports the Global Taskforce on Cholera Control’s 2017 global strategy that aims to reduce cholera deaths by 90-percent and to eliminate cholera in as many as 20 countries by 2030.
