The South African Federation of Trade Unions has expressed concern about the overwhelming number of learners who have dropped out of school since the start of Covid-19 pandemic. This, as a new study shows about 750-thousand learners between the ages of seven and 17 stopped attending school between June 2020 and May 2021. Saftu’s Trevor Shaku says this is more than triple the number of dropouts under normal conditions, which is estimated at 230-thousand per year.
