There has been public outcry after the University of Namibia announced they will not allow any Grade 11, or Namibian Senior Secondary Certificate Ordinary Level, pupils to enrol this year despite the Ministry of Education Arts and Culture having said that Grade 11 is the equivalent of the old Grade 12 and is accredited at level 3 by the National Qualifications Authority. Executive Director at the Ministry of Education Arts and Culture, Sanet Steenkamp, however explained that they encourage children who wish to attend university to pursue the new Advanced Subsidiary qualification, which was introduced this year and will enjoy an NQA grading of level 4.
