Unlike many other African countries, Namibia does not qualify for subsidised vaccines under the COVAX global COVID-19 vaccine scheme because it is classified as an upper-middle-income country, like neighbours South Africa and Botswana. According to reports, Namibia will instead have to pay N$200 million for access to the vaccine, but Ministry of Health and Social Services, Executive Director, Ben Nangombe told Future Media News that the figure is in fact N$ 290 million.
