Secretary General of the African National Congress, Ace Magashule, has handed himself over to the Hawks ahead of his appearance in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on charges related to the Free State’s controversial 2013/2014 225-million-rand asbestos audit contract. While the ANC said its top officials will not attend the sitting, supporters of the former Free State premier are gathered in front of the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court in large numbers demanding that barbed wire be removed to allow them closer to the court. Among Magashule’s supports are Supra Mahumapelo, Bongani Bongo, and convicted fraudster Tony Yengeni who challenged police at the court, saying “you don’t intimidate us… I fought for this country’.
