De Beers Sightholder Sales Vice-President for Corporate Affairs, Pat Dambe said over the years, the Shining Light Awards competition has evolved and moved away from participants designing pieces merely for the jewellery show. Dambe said participants used to design pieces that are unsellable due to the large number of diamonds used making them unaffordable. She added that the focus of the programme now is to bring some practicality to the submission and try to empower young people, so that at the end of the day their submissions can be commercialised, realistic and pragmatic.
