Eskom has lost its bid to cancel a 5.2 billion rand fuel tender with black-owned company Econ Oil. Newsflash reports that this comes after an arbitrator ruled that the contract that existed between the two parties was valid. Econ Oil had taken the power utility to arbitration when it decided to cancel the 2019 tender citing concerns over the adjudicator’s jurisdiction on the matter. The arbitrator ordered the power utility to pay 21.6-million rand in damages to Econ Oil citing Eskom’s denying of the contract constituted a repudiation thereof.
