European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen says climate neutrality must be reached by 2050. Reaching this target will require action by all sectors of the economy, including investing in environmentally-friendly technologies, supporting industry to innovate rolling out cleaner, cheaper and healthier forms of private and public transport, and de-carbonising the energy sector. Von der Leyen says there are four billion tons of CO2 that are still being produced every single year in the European Union.
