Former chairperson of South African parliament’s standing committee on public accounts, Themba Godi, believes the governing ANC and official opposition DA are paying lip service to corruption, saying that politics was at the core of rendering oversight by parliament useless, especially since the ANC used its majority to bulldoze other parties. Times Live reports that testifying at the Zondo commission hearings on Monday Godi said that the parties failed to retain their “diligent” representatives in Scopa from the fifth parliament, questioning why the parties felt that “members who serve in the best committee in parliament and have shown diligence in fighting corruption and advocating for good governance [were felt by the parties to not be] worthy of being retained”.
