A swarm of migratory locusts on Sunday invaded the Ongwediva Constituency in the Oshana Region, where local crop farmers were hard at work attempting to prevent the insects from landing on their fields and causing damage. The constituency councillor told the Namibia press agency that several villages in the constituency experienced the locust invasion. “However, every farmer at the constituency prevented the locusts from landing to destroy their mahangu by beating drums and burning old tyres or anything for the insects to fly away,” he said.
