Further to yesterday’s story about the Namibian police having met with farmers from the Omaheke Region, farmer reservist and chairperson of the Nossob Crime Prevention Forum, Jŭrgen Mutthaei said the farming community is losing confidence in the police force. In an interview with the Namibia press agency, Mutthaei said that confidence needs to be restored but it will not be done if there is ‘just talk and no action’, pointing out that following a similar meeting the previous year nothing had actually changed. “Criminals are no longer just stealing because of hunger, they are running fully operational businesses with stolen livestock. All that was said here today is good but if it’s not enforced in the next couple of months, it will fall flat again and this meeting and any other meetings before and after today will not serve any purpose,” he stressed.
