While the Burkinabè government, on January 12 of this year announced that it foiled a plot from within the armed forces to destabilise the state, Daniel Eizenga, a research fellow at the Africa Center for Strategic Studies, warns that speculation and rumour that a coup plot might topple Ouagadougou continues to swirl across social media. In an article, which you can read in full on the News blog page of the Future Media website, Eizenga argues that with military governments already in power in Mali, Guinea, Chad, and Sudan following four coup d’états in the last year, Burkina Faso’s crisis may have been averted but there are still many reasons to be concerned.
