The Ministry of Mines and Energy has announced that fuel pump prices will remain unchanged for the month of June. In a press release the Ministry explained that oil prices will continue to remain sensitive due to uncertainties surrounding the Iran nuclear negotiations with the United States and Covid-19 restrictions in Asia. Due to these uncertainties and other factors including an appreciation of the Namibia Dollar against the US Dollar the Ministry recorded under-recoveries on both petrol and diesel in May. As these were low though the Ministry has been able to absorb the planned 7c/litre increase in the Road User Levy in the unchanged prices through a special adjustment process in the calculations, with the National Energy Fund absorbing the full impact of the under-recoveries on behalf of consumers.
