Expanding on comments he made during an interview with Al Jazeera, in which he said the recently discovered oil does not legally belong to Namibians, President Hage Geingob told IPC leader, Panduleni Itula, that “as revolutionaries, maybe the best thing is to go back to the revolution of communists so that we can nationalise the resources. Then we own them constitutionally. Right now, we have a mixed economy [where the] private sector is allowed to own”. The president was quick to concede though that nationalising key resources so as to vest complete ownership in the hands of the State would be met with great resistance.
