President Hage Geingob, in a speech shared with the media on Tuesday on the occasion of the high-level event on financing for development in the era of COVID-19 and beyond, said Namibia holds world class potential for renewable energy through solar and wind, pre-conditions for ‘green’ hydrogen production but added that Namibia’s classification as an upper middle-income country presents challenges with regards to mobilising resources to finance the country’s development goals. The Namibia press agency quotes Geingob as saying that the World Bank formula places the country at a disadvantage as such classification fails to account for historic injustices that have resulted in a highly-skewed income distribution.
