The COVID-19 pandemic has fuelled and deepened poverty, rising inequalities, structural and entrenched discrimination, and other gaps in human rights protection across the world, including in Namibia says Minister of Gender Equality, Poverty Eradication and Social Welfare, Doreen Sioka. The Namibia press agency reports that while addressing the 2020 national commemoration of International Human Rights Day, Sioka said that based on available statistics, it is evident that women and children are suffering at the hands of family and community members, and that there is a need to collectively implement measures that ensure full recovery and build back a world that is better, more resilient, just and sustainable.
