Agriculture, Water and Land Reform Minister Calle Schlettwein on Monday said nearly 300 thousand hectares of commercial agricultural land has been acquired to resettle landless Namibians, exceeding the target of roughly 224 thousand hectares. The Namibia Press agency reports that Schlettwein said it represents a significant increase of 20 percent achieved by the government between 2017/18 and 2021/22. “This growth reflects the increases in maize and pearl millet production. In spite of the impact of climate variability and pest outbreaks, we are growing, although not fast enough,” he said.
