After several meetings with the Minister of Agriculture, Water and Land Reform, Calle Schlettwein, the handful of remaining dairy farmers and dairy processor Namibia Dairies, can look forward to a rescue plan. Schlettwein said submissions had been made at the technical, managerial, and ministerial level, which includes the possibility of subsidies for input such as animal feed, veterinary services, as well as water and electricity. Tariff protection and import restrictions for the dairy industry will also be looked at. Kokkie Adriaanse, the chairperson of the Dairy Producers Association of Namibia, says there is finally light at the end of the tunnel.
