The Office of the Judiciary claimed just over N$ 2 million from bail money in the 2018/19 financial year, after accused persons who had been released on bail failed to show up for their scheduled court appearances, an amount 93 per cent higher than the N$ 160 100 made the previous year. In the same year, the Judiciary also made close to N$ 8.5 million from liquor licences issued to bars, shebeens, and liquor traders countrywide. This as, according to the Office’s annual report, a total of 3 186 applications were recorded for both temporary and permanent liquor licenses, of which the courts approved 2 306.
