In an update to yesterday’s story: The families of those who were swept away during a baptism ceremony in the Jukskei River in Johannesburg on Saturday gathered at the mortuary on Monday to identify their loved ones. News24 reports that 14 bodies have been recovered so far but due to heavy rains the search had to be called off. It is also not yet clear how many people were actually missing with the National Sea Rescue Institute spokesperson Craig Lambinon saying that as many as 18 people might have been swept away in the flash flood.
