Several parliamentarians, including opposition MPs have hailed the appointment of Frans Kapofi as defence minister, a ministry where corruption and maladministration are alleged to be deeply entrenched. The Namibia press agency reports that first to congratulate Kapofi was United Democratic Front lawmaker Dudu Murorua, who advised the minister to restore the nation’s confidence in the alleged continued killings of Namibians by the Botswana Defence Force along the border between Namibia and Botswana. Rally for Democracy and Progress leader Mike Kavekotora then expressed hope that Kapofi will survive the test of time in his new portfolio. Official opposition leader McHenry Venaani also had kind words for Kapofi, but cautioned that a daunting task lies ahead for him in rooting out entrenched corruption.
