Fisheries and Marine Resources Minister, Albert Kawana, on Tuesday announced 298 names of new fishing rights holders selected from applicants who applied for fishing rights in 2018. The Namibia press agency reports that the Minister said 5 176 applications for rights were submitted in 2018 and of these, 125 were applications by companies that were involved in the industry for 20 years whose rights had expired; out of which 85 were successful. Furthermore, 213 applications from new applicants were successful, while 862 applicants were disqualified because they did not comply with the set criteria.
