South Africa’s Justice Minister Ronald Lamola has slammed claims that the arrests of alleged state capture kingpins Atul and Rajesh Gupta were orchestrated to divert attention from President Cyril Ramaphosa’s unfolding “farmgate” scandal as “baseless rhetoric”. Lamola has stressed that, if and when the Guptas are bought back to South Africa to face prosecution, they will receive a fair trial. News24 reports that the country’s National Prosecuting Authority has until 2 August to file its application for the brothers’ extradition.
