A swarm of African migratory red locusts have been spotted at Rundu and has sparked fear among the residents of the Kavango East Region. Chief Agricultural Scientific Officer in the agriculture ministry in the Kavango East Region, Moses Munenge, on Sunday said the locusts do not pose any danger to humans but could pose a danger to crops and grazing. He said the ministry has a team on the ground that is ready and prepared to suppress the outbreak of locusts in the region but explained that the challenge for the ministry is that when they are flying nothing can be done until they land somewhere. “When they land to overnight that is when we can ambush them to spray, but when they are flying we just follow them to see where they will land”.
