University of Namibia Vice-Chancellor Kenneth Matengu says he hopes that the just-launched procurement management programmes aimed at offering government institutions capacity development and training in public procurement do not become ‘a mere certificate of attendance’. “If they start with a certificate they must articulate to do something over the years to come to even a PHD level in procurement and other aspects. Nobody is interested in a certificate of attendance only,” Matengu said. Minister of Finance Iipumbu Shiimi meanwhile, in a speech delivered on his behalf called on all the public entities to prioritise training in public procurement for their staff and take advantage of the skills development opportunities offered by this initiative.
