Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador called the alleged government-ordered spying several years ago that may have targeted him and his close allies “shameful” and added that his government did not spy on anyone. Spying by the Mexican authorities is now limited to pursuing criminals, Lopez Obrador said. Mexican journalist Marcela Turati however believes the monitoring of journalists is ongoing, saying “almost all journalists in Mexico know and feel that [they] are under some kind of surveillance”.
