Presenting the Mining Industry Review for 2020 at the Chamber of Mines of Namibia AGM, President Zebra Kasete revealed that growth of the mining sector was negatively impacted by reduced diamond mining output, uranium, and metal ore production. Diamond production fell by 15% in 2020 due to a drop in output from both land-based and offshore operations, while total uranium production from the Rössing uranium mine and Swakop uranium mine dropped by 17%. Gold production from B2Gold’s Otjikoto gold mine fell by 6% in 2020 as a result of lower grades mined from the Wolfshag pit but output from the Navachab gold mine increased by 1%, as production was ramped up by new additions to the existing mining fleet.
