Residents of Walvis Bay yesterday scrambled to collect pilchards that reportedly washed ashore at the fuel jetty. The Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources however explained that rather than having washed ashore these fish had been caught, despite there being a moratorium on the harvesting of pilchards in order for the species to recover.
