The Miss South Africa Pageant has amended its requirements to allow trans women to enter the pageant for the first time. The organisation said though that “in order to be eligible to compete internationally, though, the contestant must be in possession of a valid South African ID document reflecting that their amended sex is female. Requirements that the entrants cannot have ever been married, civil nor customary, or have had a marriage annulled still remain in place while the crowned Miss South Africa is also not allowed to be pregnant, have given birth to or parented a child but this could be changed in 2022.
