The World Health Organization chief said on Wednesday that monkeypox infections in non-endemic countries have passed the 1,000 mark and the risk of it becoming established in some is “real”. Director General of the UN health agency Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that 29 countries where the virus does not usually circulate, had confirmed cases of monkeypox.
