Mozambique’s Prime Minister Carlos Agostinho do Rosario has said that more than 500,000 people have been displaced by the militant Islamist insurgency in the gas-rich northern province of Cabo Delgado. The BBC reports that the government had activated the National Operational Emergency Centre to offer humanitarian assistance to the displaced, he said. On his part, the country’s Defence Minister Jaime Neto told lawmakers that the military was pursuing leaders and financiers of the insurgency.
