A total of 5532 firearms and 209 933 pieces of ammunition were destroyed during the commemoration of the international Small Arms and Ammunition Destruction Day held at Swartkoppie in Walvis Bay on Saturday. Speaking at the event Nampol’s Deputy Inspector-General for Administration explained that “during the last three financial years, the Namibian Police Force has recorded a total of 100 murders with firearm cases, while a total of 410 attempted murder with firearm cases were also registered”. A total of 1086 cases of robbery with firearms were also recorded, while 806 pointing of firearm cases were registered during the same period.
