31 year old Namibian Doctor, Esperance Luvindao, has been honoured with a UK Commonwealth point of Light award by Queen Elizabeth II to thank inspirational volunteers across the 54 Commonwealth nations for the difference they are making in their communities and beyond. Luvindao was honoured for having delivered free online consultations to over 44,000 patients in hard-to-reach rural areas across the country since 2019. She also started the ‘1 Step at A Time’ initiative which has helped over 35,000 Namibians by purchasing crucial medication and medical equipment for village health practices, and has played a key role in supporting the country’s vaccine campaign in response to the Coronavirus pandemic.
