While National Assembly Speaker Peter Katjavivi continues to endure criticism over his purported inability to maintain the decorum of the House, he enjoys the full backing of Deputy Prime Minister Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah. Despite calls for 79-year-old Katjavivi to step down, Nandi-Ndaitwah’s instead pinned the blame for Parliament’s degeneration on unruly opposition members of parliament. “It’s really unfortunate that we are finding such ugly scenes in our parliament which has only one responsibility, of making laws… These scenes are really unacceptable and I don’t know what we want our young people and those who have elected us to think about us because it seems we are not focused,” she said in an interview with the Namibia press agency on Wednesday.
