National post-traumatic stress disorder Awareness Day is celebrated annually on June 27. The day aims to raise awareness of PTSD, a psychiatric disorder that may develop after a person has been exposed to one or more traumatic events. Research says a special part of the human brain controls our emotions. Adults who have been raised in a violent environment or who have gone through some traumatic experience like sexual abuse may have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder at a later stage of their life.
