The Namibia Public Workers Union says they will not stop striking until NBC management meet the employees’ demands of salary hikes and better working conditions. This, the Namibia press agency reports, as NBC workers are demanding an 8 per cent salary increase, despite the corporation saying in a statement addressed to the workers and the union last week that it is facing serious financial challenges this year due to a 62% reduction in their budget allocation. Napwu deputy secretary general Gabs Handumba however rubbished this reasoning, saying the demands emanated from the previous financial year and “[management had already] paid themselves performance bonuses from that budget”.
