The leader on the National Democratic Party, Lukato Lukato, has accused the Electoral Commission of Namibia of being captured by the ruling Swapo Party, insisting that the organisation’s commissioners and workers are all Swapo members, an allegation refuted by the communications manager of the ECN, Lina Ndengu. The Namibia press agency quotes the NDP leader as further accused “big” political parties with seats in parliament of destroying smaller ones by passing legislation which prohibits the small parties from getting funding from the government, explaining that his party will only have candidates contesting for elections in the Zambezi Region because most party members who wanted to stand all over the country could not raise the required N$2 500 to register as a candidate.
