Otjozondjupa Governor James Uerikua says that while the community of Gam has genuine concerns regarding the increasing number of undocumented migrants who commit crimes in the area, some individuals are turning these concerns into a tribal issue for political gain. Addressing the community’s concerns following allegations that a certain unidentified businessman was allegedly bringing in people from the northern communities to illegally harvest devils’ claw at the Nyae Nyae Conservancy in the Tsumkwe Constituency, he assured the community that no land has been taken, and there is no evidence of human trafficking taking place.
