The Outjo Municipality will next Monday disconnect the water supply of residents and businesses whose municipal accounts are in arrears, its chief executive officer Joseph Urib has said. Urib in an interview with the Namibia press agency said the town is obliged to cut off defaulters’ water unless payments are made on time or the necessary arrangements are made with the municipality to avoid disconnection. According to the CEO, more than 3 000 residents and businesses at the town owe the municipality more than N$ 33 million, an amount he said is piling up since the government’s directive for all municipalities to open taps, including those of defaulters, on account of COVID-19.
