Popular Democratic Movement Secretary General Manuel Ngaringombe has said his party is concerned about the economic impact of the strike by Shoprite employees and called on the involved parties to reach a mutually beneficial agreement. The Namibia press agency quotes Ngaringombe as saying that the “PDM wants to put it on record that any loss of jobs resulting from the continued strike stalemate between the Namibia Food and Allied Workers Union and Shoprite will be regrettable. At this point in time, the economy needs to protect jobs at all costs. Hence, it’s important that Nafau and Shoprite facilitate discussions in a fashion aimed at ending the industrial action in a manner which benefits both parties.”He added that if the disagreements between Shoprite and Nafau continue, the party will call upon the Labour Commission to intervene.
