The Ministry of Mines and Energy has announced that the fuel pump price of petrol will increase by 30 cents per litre on Wednesday 2 September, while that of diesel will increase by 15 cents per litre. This the Ministry announced in a press release was necessitated mostly by the deterioration of the exchange rate between the Namibian Dollar and the US Dollar, which resulted in under-recoveries being recorded. The Ministry explained that the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the economy is always taken into account when making any decision about the change in fuel prices but as the National Energy Fund had already absorbed the vast majority of the under-recoveries recorded in July it was necessary to pass some of the current under-recoveries on to consumers to ensure the sustainability of the Fund.
