The ||Kharas Regional Council is without a functional management committee for about four months now due to a stand-off between the Landless People’s Movement (LPM) and Swapo. According to the Namibia Press Agency, the two parties are entangled in an argument over the composition of members of the National Council and regional council from that region. With the national budget announcement set for this week, it is a cause of alarm, for even if funds are to be allocated to that region, such funds cannot be used to address pressing needs such as housing without a properly constructed council. Speaking to Future Media news, public policy analyst, Dr. Marius Kudumo says the stand-off between the two parties is focusing on political interest rather than the broader public interest.
